Sleep dentistry

Imagine having your treatment and not remembering a thing.

IV sedation is a deep state of relaxation. You stay conscious and can answer simple requests, but most people feel as though they slept through the whole appointment. Dr Richard Kozlowski has been giving it for more than 23 years and is endorsed by the Dental Board of Australia for conscious sedation.

  • Happy gas

A mild gas through a small mask. Wears off within minutes.

  • Oral sedation

A tablet before treatment to calm things down.

  • IV sedation

Given by a sedationist who stays with you, monitoring you throughout.

Pulse, blood pressure, heart rhythm and oxygen are watched the whole way through.

One visit, not five

Hours feel like minutes.

Sedation lets long treatments like implants, root canals and wisdom teeth be done in a single appointment, and you tend to remember very little of it.

Questions

The things people ask before booking.

What is conscious sedation and how does it help?

It helps you feel calm and relaxed during treatment. You stay awake and can respond, but you are much less aware of what is happening, which makes the visit far more comfortable.

What sedation options are available?

Inhalation sedation (happy gas), oral sedation and intravenous (IV) sedation. Which one suits you depends on the treatment, how you feel about it and your medical history.

Is sedation safe, and what happens afterwards?

Yes, when it is given by trained professionals. You may feel drowsy or light-headed afterwards and you will need someone to take you home. Don't drive or sign important papers for 24 hours after IV sedation.

How much does IV sedation cost?

The fee ranges from about $840 to $1,600 depending on how long the treatment takes. It includes monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm, oxygen level and pulse throughout, and is payable two weeks before treatment. Private health cover may help with part of it.

Do you have wheelchair access?

Yes. The 2016 renovation added a ramp from the car park to the front door, space inside and accessible bathroom facilities. There is on-site parking too.

What if I'm afraid of needles?

Most people describe it as a small pinch. An oral sedative beforehand and a numbing patch over the spot can take the edge off it, and we're happy to talk it through first.
